Handler vs. Podium
A buyer's guide for HVAC contractors · Pricing verified July 2026
Every tool on this list waits for customers to visit your website and type. Handler answers your phone — because when an AC dies at 9pm in South Florida, nobody opens a chat widget. They call.
Podium at a glance
Reputation and lead-conversion platform (reviews, webchat, SMS inbox, text-to-pay) with an AI add-on.
Pricing (verified July 2026): Quote-gated. Core reported at $399/mo, Pro $599/mo, Enterprise $999+/mo. AI Employee add-on $99–$399/mo. Common add-ons: $5/mo per extra phone number, $5/mo 10DLC carrier fee per location, phone seats $30/user/mo, $500 one-time network fee. Operators commonly report $500–$800/mo all-in for a single location, on annual contracts.
Podium is a strong reputation platform. If your priority is generating Google reviews and running a shared SMS inbox, it does that job. But Podium's webchat is a capture form: it collects a name and number from a website visitor and drops it into your inbox for a human to chase. Someone still has to answer the phone — and at $399–$599 a month before add-ons, plus $99+ for the AI layer, you're paying premium pricing for a tool that goes quiet at 5pm exactly when your call volume gets serious.
Handler starts where Podium stops: the phone rings, Handler answers, triages the emergency, books the appointment into your calendar, and texts the confirmation. No lead to chase. No callback queue. If the caller is a maintenance-plan member, Handler knows and moves them up. If it's a gas smell, Handler gets them out of the house before anything else.
Run both if you want — Podium for reviews, Handler for the phone. But if you're paying for Podium mainly because of the webchat leads, you're overpaying for a contact form.
When Podium is the right choice
Multi-location groups whose #1 problem is review volume and centralized texting, with a fully staffed office answering phones.
What Handler is not
Handler is not a reputation-management platform, not a review-request tool, not a mass-texting suite, and not a CRM. If you need those, several vendors on this list do them well — and Handler works alongside them.
